All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace

4 stars! Spoiler free review!

Adalyn Grace delivered! I liked it way more than I thought I would and gave it 4 stars. Grace managed to pack a lot into such a short book, and maintained a decent level of complexity throughout her story for a YA book.

  • The plot — I was never annoyed with the choices the main character made, everything she chose to do made sense and she really cared for the outcome of her kingdom.

  • The ENDING, it almost almost hit me in my feels but not quite. Still super crazy and I appreciate that she created such easy to follow imagery with her battle scenes.

  • The characters — the mermaid is my favorite side character of course, she's blood thirsty but also very sweet and honorable and the juxtaposition of those things is perfect for her, she's also Bi

  • the romance — they actually TALK to each other, no weird or distasteful tropes, they each actually have good heads on their shoulders and build a real friendship then relationship

  • The magic — much more complicated than you'd expect, it was really really interesting.

  • The world building could go places. It wasn't quite fleshed out in this book, but I'm excited to see what she does in the sequel.

  • I'm still impressed with how much Grace was able to pack into such a short YA story, I can only imagine if this was adult, it would have an even more complicated plot and more about characters and even more feels

  • The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I just can't seem to give many YA books a full 5 stars anymore unless I feel the FEELS yenno?

Random things:

  • I giggled when the boys had literally no idea what to do with Amora when it was her time of the month, classic!

  • And I felt for Amora when she said, "If I weren't so vain I'd consider slashing it away," when someone grabbed her hair. Like... girl I feel you.

  • Things like these really made the story more relatable and realistic despite being a fantasy novel.

Honestly, like I said before, I think the only reason I wouldn't give it a full five stars is because I didn't have that completely blown away feeling or just wasn't totally in my feels by the end of the book, but still really excited for the sequel!
