2 stars. YIKES. Spoiler free review!
I know all this may sound brutal, but I had to give you my honest opinion as usual:
The plot was flat and predictable, there didn't seem to be a purpose to it, like we were really just following Fable around as she made bad decisions and told us all her bad opinions — it wasn't fun
The main character, Fable, was the only fully fleshed out character; however, she was extremely naïve, weak bodied & minded, and rubbed me the wrong way. I didn't feel like rooting for her, I just kept thinking to myself... "why?" and "I don't care."
The rest of the Marigold characters lacked substance and personality, didn't like any of them either.
West I hated the most! Whatever you want to call the relationship in here would be a huge stretch to be considered romance, it was just like no chemistry (literally ignoring each other and barely talking) to already in love/talking about love at first sight. Ugh I hated it.
Fables father's choices make no sense to me, his entire persona towards Fable makes no sense to me.
The other antagonist in this story, the other pirate, just kept pissing me off. He was just awful and honestly the reasons for his awfulness do not suffice.
Clearly, I didn't have a good time reading this. BUT — If you enjoyed this story (I know most people did), I'd love to hear why! Maybe I missed something while I was reading it.
Either way, I'm going to read the second book because it's only a duology and I already own it — such beautiful copies at that. Onto the sequel, let's see if it's any better??!?!?
