Queen of Air and Darkness

Cassandra Clare

5 stars! This review will be spoiler free, but will have spoilers for previous books!

Synopsis:

Third and final book in the Dark Artifaces: Liv is dead. Julian has gone to a dark place. Emma is broken. Cristina, Mark, and Kieran are all kinds of confused. Kit can't reach Ty anymore. Warlocks have become sick. The Clave is on the brink of civil war. WHAT. A. MESS. And now let's add a race against time to save everyone to the mix.

Thoughts:

I was heart broken following the events at the end of Lord of Shadows. To describe this book: it's raw, it's heart wrenching, it's all about family and love and honor. I was worried about how Cassie would wrap up all the loose ends coming from LoS, but she wrapped up her finale so well while still leaving some untied bits and pieces for new series she's writing to pick up off of.

I'm so incredibly satisfied to say that I did not expect this ending. Some aspects of it, yes, you can assume they're coming because that's just how YA books are, but the HOW it's executed is the most important part. The execution of the ending is what completely took me by surprise. We were brought to places in faerie that I didn't expect to see. We were brought to other worlds that I never thought we would experience. We continue to explore new kinds of magic.

Family is such a big theme within this final book as well. I love how Cassie tackled the familial relationships throughout these books not just within the Blackthornes, but also the Rosales, and the Carstairs. You truly feel like every single character is an integral puzzle piece that helps put this book together.

The romance, as it has been throughout the series, was breathtaking.

The political maneuvering was top notch.

The battles kept you on the edge of your seat.

The ending itself was mesmerizing.

I have no higher praises to scream from the roof tops about this series and this final book.

Overall:

I loved every single moment of this series and was not disappointed by this finale. I am once again a fan of Cassandra Clare and will preach that this trilogy is her best work so far.
