I went into this book without any expectations or knowledge about what this book or series is about. I honestly just loved the cover and font and thought “Worldwalkers trilogy, hmm sounds cool! Let’s read it!” With an open mind, I started reading and I ended up getting sucked in right away. I found myself wanting to pick up the book and read whenever I possibly could. I suggest just going into this book without thinking too much about it and just enjoy the rollercoaster of a ride.
Things I loved about this book:
The entire magic system is quite detailed. Explaining it was not info-dumpy at all, bits and pieces were puzzled together to create this intricate way of doing magic. There is also a hierarchy of the different levels of magic and it takes a certain amount of strength to attain the next one.
This book also had wonderful imagery. I had no trouble “seeing” everything that was described. I love books that create amazing new environments for me to see in my head. The world she was thrown into was very very different from ours, but there were still details that made them similar (and not just the architecture), like how they have magic to run everything, but science is still relevant.
The romantic plot line and character development was just so wonderful. Certain parts of each character were revealed at the right moments to keep you sucked in and even though sometimes you want to guess what will happen next, or what this person will say next, it wasn’t really possible. This really keeps the suspense going.
The comedic relief in the story was also smartly done and I enjoyed a good laugh a few times while still feeling the suspense of the plot.
I don’t think I can put into words how much this book surprised me! I really thought for less than 400 pages this book was very well put together. There’s just so much you learn in just this first book and it never once got boring. I cannot wait to pick up the sequel and continue the adventure. I still have many questions that need answering!
I also totally want this version of the cover.. It's so gorgeous!
Favorite things about these characters:
Lily: her resolve.
Rowan: I cannot pick just one thing. I just instantly loved him when he came into the picture. Even if he was a total jerk to begin with.
Juliet: her sisterly love and protection.
Tristan (from the magic world): his contribution to the comedic and light-hearted parts of the book.
Caleb: also his comedic contributions, but definitely his loyalty.
Lillian: I kinda just hate her. I still don’t know what her end game is.
Gideon: yeah pretty much hate him too. The ending makes it all worth it.
