The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

5 stars! Spoiler free review!

I cannot deny that during 2021, I was on an adult romance high. This is one of the books that went to the top of my fave adult romances list!

  • REP REP REP :)

    • Neurodivergent representation in all the Kiss Quotient books: autism!

    • Asian representation in all the Kiss Quotient books, too!

  • I loved the characters. Each had their own lives and passions and fleshed out personalities. The main character, Stella, is an independent, wicked smart woman who works as an economist (which I never heard of before, so I learned something new!). She knows her comfort levels and wishes to step outside of those zones. And to revamp her life after challenges in her love life, she hires an escort. Enter the male lead, Michael Phan, who is a bit oblivious, but all around a kind, understanding, family-oriented, and of course very very hot man meant to swoop us readers off our feet.

  • The romance blooms from their first meeting and honestly, the readers probably fell in love with Michael first, but the spice and smut and gentleness of their interactions soon have Stella falling in love too. AND there are some extra points for:

    • A male who can both exude dominance while respecting boundaries and consent.

    • Angssssssttttttt

    • Fake dating trope

  • In classic romance fashion, there are hiccups in the end that lead to the “will they get back together” moment and unfortunately this one was based in the miscommunication trope. Normally I’d be very upset about it, and I bet most people would be, but it didn’t bother me here. I felt like the flow of the plot with miscommunication here worked and was resolved really well.

So happy this book lived up to the hype! Highly recommend if this sounds like it would be up your ally!

For my thoughts on other books: I enjoyed them all and recommend them all, but recommend reading the reviews of the other books to see if they're for you as I didn't love them quite as much as this book for different reasons!
