This book was sent to me by the author in exchange for an honest review. Here we go.
Synopsis:
Magic wielders known as Descendants are "blessed by the Gods" some may say. In this era, Descendants are feared by humans and chose to serve for the evil King Zagan of Sharnin for in his kingdom, they fight for glory (but in reality is just trying to control them). The Queen of Thurnadan is committing all sorts of treason by poisoning her husband's mind to prove she has what it takes to rule the Queendom rather than him, but Zagan is coming for her soon. After a great purging of the few Descendants against Zagan, only Aurora survives. A Descendant foretold in an Ancient Prophecy who is more powerful than ever thought possible.
DNF @ 132/287. 1.5 stars. I tried to finish! I really did... It's not that the book was absolutely terrible, but I just don't think the writing or plot was for me.
Things I did like:
1. The magic system was interesting. I liked how the different abilities reveal themselves as tattoos on the magic wielder. I like how people usually only have 1-3 types, but our main character (Aurora) is OP and has all of them.
2. The map! I love me a book with a map and this one was helpful as there was quite a lot of traveling in the beginning of the book and I needed to consult it to know where everyone was going.
3. The initial chapters were action packed!
4. Lots of political intrigue!
Reasons I did not like this book:
1. The POV switched too often for me to really get to know of like any of the characters.
2. The one character I liked, Aurora, I felt like I didn't get to spend enough time with her.
3. All the other characters were annoying or hopeless, the Doc, the King, Bridget... and I couldn't really tell how old any of them actually were.
4. I still do not understand our villain or his reasons for conquering or like anything about his past.
5. I do not quite yet understand how these character's lives are supposed to intertwine.
